Eight days, one island,
just us two.

I know the plan took a while. That's because it had to be worthy of you. Happy almost-birthday, my favourite person — scroll to take off.

Wheels up ✈

Saturday, sunrise. Ninety minutes over the water and the island is ours.

Day 1 · Sat 26 Sep

Straight to the sea

Colombo → Mirissa · the south coast

  • Land, grab hands, hit the expressway south — palm trees start immediately
  • Coconut Tree Hill for our first sunset — the postcard we'll recreate badly
  • First dinner with sand between our toes, sea doing the background music
Day 2 · Sun 27 Sep

Salt water & slow hours

Weligama · Mirissa

  • Surf lesson in Weligama bay if the sea plays nice — falling off counts as style
  • Beach-club loungers, fresh coconuts, king coconut refills, zero agenda
  • Beach-bar hop along Mirissa — barefoot dancing is mandatory
🤍

👑 her day 👑

Day 3 · Mon 28 Sep

Your birthday, done properly

Mirissa · no alarms allowed

  • Breakfast in bed. You don't lift a finger today — island rules
  • Couples spa in the afternoon — you, me, and an hour of doing nothing beautifully
  • Golden hour: a private candlelit table on the sand. Lanterns. Cake. Just us and the sound of the sea

P.S. — there's one more surprise. I'm not putting it on the internet. You'll have to come find out.

Day 4 · Tue 29 Sep

A fort from a storybook

Galle Fort · Unawatuna

  • Galle Fort — 400-year-old ramparts, lighthouse, lanes full of little cafés and antique doors
  • Sunset walk on the fort walls — the most romantic 20 minutes on the island
  • Night out in Unawatuna's beach bars — small, loud, happy
Day 5 · Wed 30 Sep

Up into the clouds

South coast → Ella · tea country

  • Wind up into the hills — waterfalls by the roadside, air turning cool and green
  • Nine Arch Bridge — we time it for a passing train through the jungle
  • Ella's café strip after dark — live music, cheap cocktails, mountain air
Day 6 · Thu 1 Oct

The famous blue train

Ella → Kandy

  • Little Adam's Peak at sunrise — 45 easy minutes, views for days
  • The legendary hill-country train — tea estates, tunnels, hanging out the doorway (carefully, I promise)
  • Evening ritual at the Temple of the Tooth, then a slow walk around Kandy Lake
Day 7 · Fri 2 Oct

The Lion Rock

Sigiriya · Minneriya

  • Sigiriya — a 1,600-year-old palace in the sky. We climb it together, complain together, gasp at the top together
  • Afternoon elephant safari at Minneriya — wild herds at the water's edge, if luck is with us
  • Jungle-quiet night under more stars than Bengaluru has ever shown you
Day 8 · Sat 3 Oct

One last big night

Colombo

  • Lazy morning, long lunch, a little shopping for things we don't need
  • Rooftop sunset over the Indian Ocean — dress up, look unfairly good
  • Then we dance. Colombo's nightlife till late — the grand finale we'll be retelling for months

Home ✈ Sun 4 Oct

Sun-drunk, sandy, full of stories. Back where we started — but a little more in love.

The fine print (my vows)

🎒Bag duty: mine

Both bags. All week. No complaints.

📸Unlimited photos of you

Golden hour, blue hour, every hour. I'll get the angle right.

🧴Sunscreen department

Applied on demand. SPF 50. Non-negotiable.

🍦Snack clause

If you're hungry, we stop. That's the law.

One more thing

I know this plan took longer than it should have. I kept researching and comparing and second-guessing — because a random trip wasn't good enough. Your birthday only lands on an island once.

So here it is: eight days where the only thing on your to-do list is being celebrated. Beaches, a fort at sunset, a train through the clouds, elephants, one very special dinner on the sand — and me, extremely smug that I finally pulled it off.

Happy birthday in advance, my favourite person. Let's go.

All my love, always — A
